Exploring two lush garden islands in Vinh Long

If you ever find yourself in Vinh Long, don't miss the chance to visit these two islands and experience the life of the Mekong Delta locals.

 An Binh Island

Minh Island, also known as An Binh Island, consists of 4 communes (An Binh, Hoa Ninh, Dong Phu, and Binh Hoa Phuoc in Long Ho District), covering an area of over 60km2, surrounded by the Co Chien and Ham Luong rivers. It is a captivating destination of lush rivers and orchards in Vinh Long province.

With its landscape of land islets surrounded by rivers, An Binh Island is an ideal place for tourists to explore the local life by boat. The cool breezes and rhythmic boat songs will leave you with unforgettable memories.

A famous spiritual tourist spot on An Binh Island is Tien Chau Pagoda located on the Tien Beach, Co Chien River's downstream. The pagoda was established between 1740 and 1750, a historical temple not only renowned in Vinh Long but also in the entire Southwestern region, associated with the legend of the fairy bathing beach.

May Island

May Island, also known as Luc Si Thanh Island, comprises two communes: Luc Si Thanh in the south and Phu Thanh in the north of Tra On District, Vinh Long Province.

The local name 'May Island' is explained as a landmass emerging into an islet, initially undeveloped with abundant vegetation, intertwined with 'forest clouds' vines within a wild grassland area, hence dubbed 'May Island' by the locals, gradually becoming its toponym.

May Island covers an area of approximately 4000 hectares, benefiting from the fresh water and alluvium of the Hau River, resulting in fertile land, lush fruit trees, hospitable locals, situated between two major rivers: the Hau River and the Tra On River, ensuring a cool climate year-round.

May Island is about 10km from Ninh Kieu Wharf – Can Tho. By boat, it takes around 45 minutes to reach. Alternatively, tourists can take a ferry from Tra On Market to May Island.

Setting foot on the island, tourists can explore the rich land by bicycle or motorcycle, passing through vast orchards of various fruits such as pomelo, oranges, rambutans, longans, and custard apples, laden with ripe fruits.
